A Freshman Group (short
term) Offered
Again!
The
start of the year, especially at a new school, can
be a difficult time in a young person's life. The
excitement of "starting new" is mixed with the
sadness of leaving familiar territory. Students
may be wondering: "What will
it be like?
Will I be accepted? Will I be
successful? What study skills and test taking
skills do I need". Fears of
change can be overwhelming for some young
people.
However, with encouragement, this
transition can be a positive new
start.
With
this in mind, the Guidance & Counseling
Department will again offer the optional six-week
group for freshman. This group
meets once a week during rotating class
periods.
The group, run by counselors Mrs. Rupp and
Ms. Sullivan, offers freshmen the opportunity to
meet new people, to learn more about St. Francis
and ask questions in a small, non-threatening
environment.
The second component to the freshman group
is to help students work on study skills and test
taking techniques. Group
size is limited and registration is required. The
freshman group will begin at the end of August.
Contact Info: For more information
on this group or on any of the other support
groups available at St. Francis, contact Mrs. Rupp
at ext 104 or email at arupp@sfhsnet.org
.
Sign-Up Deadline is Aug. 29th.

The Back To School
Dance
The Back to School Dance is outside
Saturday, August 23 from 7:30 until 10:30
pm. Students arriving after 8:00 pm are not
admitted. Once at the dance, students are
not permitted to leave until 9:30 pm.
Students are reminded:
- to wear modest attire;
- bring their school ID;
- cost is $6 or $5 with a
canned good donation;
- and they must be in
attendance by 8:20 am on Friday in order to
be eligible for the dance on
Saturday.
It is the expectation that students'
behavior reflects the values of the
school.
- Demonstrate appropriate
behavior and respect your peers on and off the
dance floor.
- Show respect for self
and others relative to space and actions on the
dance floor.
- Refrain from any
physical contact that is sexually explicit in
its nature and/or a flagrant display of
affection i.e., front to back dancing, grinding,
roaming hands.
Consequences:
- If any chaperone
determines that the above mentioned expectations
are not being met, they will immediately remove
the student from the dance floor.
- Once removed from the
dance floor, parents will be called and the
student sent home.
- If parents cannot be
reached, the student will remain in the office
until 9:30 p.m. Parents will be notified on the
next school day.
At last Monday's class
meetings, students were addressed about the
expectations for school dances. Students
were also informed that anyone dismissed from
multiple dances may be ineligible to attend the
next
dance.
