Graduates of the Class of 2009 -
Open each new door with trust, holding your hopes
and dreams very near...knowing that the world is
waiting for the goodness and the love you carry
with you. ~ M.E.
Miró Parents of the Class of
2009 - a heartfelt thank you for entrusting
and sharing your sons and daughters with us at St.
Francis High School.
This is a
reminder that being on campus after hours and
unsupervised is trespassing and is
prohibited.
I encourage you to speak with
your children about the importance of not being on
campus after hours. While I know that toilet
papering may seem harmless, so many things can go
wrong. In the past, students have
climbed on top of the buildings (including
Spyglass), have entered the building and have done
physical damage to the buildings and
grounds. I pray that this does not happen
because no good can come from unsupervised
activities.

Farewell from the PO
President
It seems like just yesterday that we were
buying books and supplies and having orientation!
Now, not only are we at the end of another school
year, but I am at the end of my term as President
of the St. Francis Parents'
Organization. I would like to
personally extend a big "THANK YOU" to my
Executive Board, Robin Solomon, Marianne Hale,
Laura O'Donnell, Karen Vokaty and Kathy
Beckmen. These women were so great to work
with. Not only were they my "right hand",
they were a1so instrumental in revitalizing the
Parents' Organization and making it a stronger
group. Thank you to all the committee chairs
and their numerous volunteers, who have
overwhelmed me with their hard work and
enthusiasm, making St. Francis the great school
that it is. Also, thank you to the
administration, faculty and staff for their
continued support of the Parents'
Organization. None of the great things that
the PO has accomplished over the years would have
ever been possible without the generous support of
all of you. Thank you for
giving me the privilege to serve as your President
these past two years and for all your kind
words. My last official
duty is to present to you the new Executive Board
for 2009 - 2010 school year:

Transportation
Reimbursement Program
- Action Alert
Hello all:
I wanted to remind you all of the action
alert I included in the April newsletter two weeks
ago. ISBE and the Governor have proposed
cutting the $12 million funding for the
Parent/Guardian Transportation Reimbursement
Program from the education budget. This
program provides state reimbursements
to parents to whom bus service is not
available and therefore must drive their children
to school. It is an important benefit that
we have been trying to grow for some time and
definitely do not want to see go away.
I am asking each of you to activate your
school staff and parents to call and/or write
your legislator and ask him or her to
fight to restore this important funding. A
sample letter with all
the important details is attached and can be found
on my web site: www.catholicconferenceofillinois.org.
We need to act! There will be cuts in the
budget this year, but we want to prevent this
program from being one of the cuts!
If you do not know your legislator you can
call our offices at 217-528-9200 or 312-368-1066
or visit the General Assembly's web site at
www.ilga.gov and click on the Legislator Lookup
link in the bottom right-hand portion of the home
page.
